Logo Design for
Thomas E. Lowe, LTD
Adobe Illustrator & InDesign
Project for Graphic Design & Professional Practice, Spring 2025
This logo design was created for Thomas E. Lowe, Ltd., a Christian book publishing company that desired to rebrand and came to my Graphic Design & Professional Practice class for logo design options. For this multi-phase project, I started by coming up with forty-eight logo possibilities in my sketchbook. These forty-eight were narrowed down to three sketches to work from in the next phase of the project, during which I used Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to create twelve design variations for each of the three sketches - this time including color. One of these variations was chosen for the third phase of the project, for which I made twelve additional variations of the chosen design in terms of color, typography, and layout. After choosing one final logo design, I refined the design and applied it to mockups in the context of mugs, business cards, and the publishing company’s books. The project concluded with a formal presentation of my design and mockups to executives of Thomas E. Lowe, Ltd.
My logo mark visualizes the company ’s initials in the form of a book – the company ’s primary product. The logo mark and the typography for “Thomas E” and “LTD” are sleek and sans serif as a nod to the company ’s desire to appear relevant and updated. The blue and gold color scheme and the serif font of “Lowe” add a classy element so that the logo still references old books and feels sophisticated, without feeling archaic. The rippled edges of “Lowe” references torn paper edges of book pages.
